It is important that you shop around before choosing a buyer. There are different karats of gold. 9k, 10k, 14k, 18k and 22k. The most popular format in the U.S. is 14k. 80% of jewelry is made from 14 karat gold. In Italy most jewelry is made from 18 karat. The higher the karat the more gold content is in the item. When selling gold, the stones in the items don't weigh that much, so be sure that the buyer is not taking too much weight off for the stones. It is our recomendation that you ask for the item weight with the stones removed. Also, be sure to get a reciept for your sale. A buyer will be more apt to deal straight with you, if you ask for a reciept.
